Aims of the meeting

Endoderm is one of the three primary germ layers in the early embryo. During embryogenesis, endoderm differentiates into the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, and gives rise to thyroid, lung, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas and intestine. Fundamental studies have identified mechanisms that govern the differentiation of the endoderm and its derived organs. Importantly, knowledge of developmental processes sheds light on the pathophysiology of diseases of these organs, and offers perspectives for treatment.

During the meeting, internationally recognized researchers and young scientists will present their most recent work that has uncovered novel mechanisms involved in the development of the endoderm and derived organs. They will illustrate how such mechanisms can be translated to understand and treat diseases, including but not limited to cancer.
